Maja the Bee

adapted by Bärbel Maier, based on the book by Waldemar Bonsels

Collecting honey and forming wax is not Maja's ideal of a thrilling life... - Maja wants to fly around, enjoy the sunshine, the flowers, the dewcovered meadows and the sparkle of the lakes. So she leaves the protective beehive, finding new liberty, new friends and new foes. Hannibal for example, the neurotic spider, that lost a leg at his first encounter with a human. Or the horrible hornets, that love to lunch on a "fresh bee". So Maja gains a lot of experience, instead of collecting lots of honey. And it is that experience, that will help her rescuing her hive...

KiTZ Theaterkumpanei retells the story of the famous runaway-bee, staying close to Waldemar Bonsels original text, written back in 1912. No additional characters (like in a popular TV-version). Instead KiTZ provides a brand new setting for this play: a selfinvented theatre-tent. Set in a beautyful scenery, designed by felting-artist Sandy Burke-Späth, the play gives a poetic, yet thrilling glance at the beauty of nature.
